A little bit of reading

I hated reading, or rather, learning to read. I remember standing next to my teacher reading out sentences from some books, or to one of my parents, usually my dad at home. The books I most remember are about Timothy and his cat, and I probably would have liked them (it was about a magic cat I think afterall!) but I was still learning at the time. I guess it was frustrating to me not being able to understand in order to find out the story.

I don’t think I watched much tv when I was a kid, (but I sure got addicted to Nickelodeon and cartoon network about 9-13 lol) and liked to play games either by myself, friends or my brothers, for hours on end, and reading took too long for me to find out? I think thats why I read books super fast right now. Somewhere, I’m thinking maybe I was 8, I turned into a bookworm haha. My dad and brothers used to call me that, they’d say I devoured books. When I went to see my dad on the weekends, I’d usually bring a book with me and read while they watched a film I didn’t really want to see or a tv show I wasn’t into.

Anyway, I like to read books usually in one sitting, or three at the most. Any long means I don’t really pick up the book again for awhile (I have two books half read, and I’ve read other books since). So if I start reading at night, I probably will stay up till 5am reading and finish the book, and not have much sleep, but I like to know the ending of things.

Sometimes I also skip to the end, and read, and that puts me off a book and while to finish too. So where was this going? I haven’t actually read a book in months! Which is weird. I was the girl who’d go to the library and take out the max amount of books, and return them all on time and read and do summer competitions. I took the most books out of the school library and the librarian knew me well, and let me take out extra books and not have to pay a fine if I was a little bit late, which I usually wasn’t. Ha, can you say geek much?

I think, since uni started or from even before I’ve only read maybe three books, but I’ve bought loads! Darn you Borders! *shakes fist* If I had time to read a book, that should mean I have time to clean my room, study, exericise, write essays etc, so I put it off. But I’d read online manga’s or comics, and watch tv series (like all seasons of Lost in a month or two!)

So I thought I’d start again by reading a book a week, from my quite big pile of unread books which I really want to read. I was going to start this week on a monday but forgot. Then I re-read a book I read ages ago from school, bought off amazon a few months ago. Its called “Tomorrow when the war began” by John Marsden.

tomorrow when the war began

Its really good! I remembered vague things about it, and asked if anyone knew what it was on a nanowrimo forum, and someone knew! Yay! I bought the book and re-read it, and can’t wait to read the rest of the series, which some of them I may have read. I think I mixed some of the storylines up a bit?

Its about a group of teenagers in Australia who go camping, and when they return home, they find out their country has been invaded, and their families taken hostage. The story revolves around the main character, Ellie, as she is the one who has written down her and her friends story. Its a mixture of action and romance, as well as a few other things, and its really interesting. I don’t know, I just like how they hide out from the enemies and try to adapt to this new life, while do something to stop it too. I think I’ll be ordering the other books off amazon too.

I took a day off, and then yesterday read the “The Looking Glass Wars” by Frank Beddor. I LOVE anything to do with Alice in Wonderland, and the “Looking Glass” series, is an alternate version of Alice in Wonderland. Again this is a book I’ve had for awhile and put off reading because of my stupid reasons listed above. The second books out, and the third ones coming out in September, and I want to read them both now! Ha, I’m so impaitent.

The book is about Alyss Heart, Princess of Wonderland. Only she was sent to this world to escape danger, and no one believes her story, except for one man, who wrote down her story. Only, he didn’t write down the truth. Many years later she returns to Wonderland, and is reunited with old friends and sets out to save Wonderland and become the rightful Queen. I like it! Fantasy books are always good. Again, some action, romance, “history”, fantasy and a finding yourself theme.

These aren’t exactly the best reviews, I don’t want to give too much of the plot away and I rambled a LOT at the start, but hey this is my blog. I just wanted to write a little something about these books incase anyones looking for a good book to read, or considering these, and stumbled across my blog. Hopefully I’ll do this each week and get better, and I’ll tend to read anything, but most of my books are probably under the “Young Adult” Teen fic section in any book store, except for Jane Austen and Kathy Reichs etc maybe lol.

No clue what I’ll be reading next, I want to read the next installments in these stories, but I told myself I won’t buy anymore books until I’ve read all my unread books. Or at least a few of them, since there’s loads. Plus, I have no room left in my room for books haha >.<

  1. I read Tomorrow When the War Began years ago, and was captivated by it. It took me a long time to find it based on what I remembered, but I’m so glad I did…it’s fascinating! I never realized it was a part of a series, though, so I’m going to have to look up more books.

    • Same here, I only remembered a few details and asked on a forum and was glad it was as good as I remembered it to be :) I didn’t remember it to be a series either at the time, but the ending is pretty cliffhanger-y so I was happy there were 6 more books. I’ve found all the other books on amazon. I have the second one but not the rest yet.
